Shop the CollectionFederally Commissioned
Between 1936 and 1943 the WPA's Federal Art Project employed more than five thousand artists across the United States. Their output — roughly two million posters from thirty-five thousand designs — was created by federal employees as part of official duties and entered the public domain on publication.

Every design in this collection is sourced from the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. The Library holds the largest known archive of original WPA posters, with explicit no-known-restrictions guidance on reproduction.
