THE MATERIALS
GUIDE.
Vinyl, BOPP, paper, kraft, holographic — every sticker material explained, compared, and matched to the job. Pick right the first time.
The Short Answer
TL;DR: If your sticker will ever touch water, oil, sun, or a cooler — use BOPP (what we print). Vinyl is its thicker cousin for decals. Paper is for dry, indoor, short-life jobs only. Kraft is paper with a rustic look. Holographic is BOPP with a party trick.
Material choice matters more than design quality. A beautiful label on the wrong material peels, fades, or stains — and takes your brand with it.
BOPP — The Workhorse
Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene is the film national brands use for product labels. The BOPP face film is waterproof. Adhesive, print, finish, surface, application and exposure determine the performance of the finished sticker or label. It is the only material Carrco stocks, because it is the only one we would put our own name on.

| Best for | Product labels, bottles, outdoor, coolers, dishwasher items |
Vinyl — The Thick Cousin
Vinyl (PVC) is also a waterproof plastic. It is thicker and stretchier than BOPP, which makes it right for wall decals, floor graphics, and vehicle wraps where you need conformability over rivets and texture. For product and jar labels, its extra thickness works against you — edges catch, and fine text prints softer than on BOPP. Rule of thumb: labels and stickers → BOPP; decals and wraps → vinyl.
Paper — Dry Jobs Only
Paper stickers are the cheapest to produce and the fastest to die. Water wicks in from the edges, oils stain instantly, and sunlight fades them in weeks. Legitimate uses: sealing envelopes, indoor packaging accents, single-event handouts, and shipping labels that only need to live for a week. If your product sweats, ships cold, or sits in a window — paper is the wrong answer.
Kraft — The Rustic Look
Kraft is brown recycled-look paper stock. It photographs beautifully on candles, soap wraps, and coffee bags — and it has every weakness of paper. If you want the kraft aesthetic on a jar that will get wet, print a kraft-textured design on matte BOPP instead: same farmhouse look, zero peeling. We do this for candle and honey brands constantly.
Holographic, Clear & Specialty
Holographic, glitter, and mirror films are polypropylene or polyester bases with effect layers — waterproof like BOPP, with dramatically higher shelf presence. Clear BOPP gives the "no-label look" on glass. Use specialty films for logo drops, limited runs, and anywhere you need a wow moment; use standard BOPP for compliance-heavy panels, since effect layers can fight small text.
